“How are you, honey?” Thomas said as he walked over to Mary Elle. He knew it was something that Mary Elle was still trying to process. He knew it bothered her that her mother had this affair.

“I’m ok. I wasn’t expecting to see him. I remember him from childhood. Mom said he was our uncle,” Mary Elle said with a sad smile as she looked into Thomas’ eyes.

“Darling, you don’t know all the details. I’m sure your mother loved your father. Regardless of her affair, your father stood next to your mother until the end. He loved her unconditionally. Let that comfort you; they could work things out and continue to love one another, and most importantly, he loved you and DeeAnn the same,” Thomas said.

Mary Elle knew he was right. She was sure that her parents loved each other, and they didn’t allow an affair to break them apart.

“You’re right. How did I get so lucky to have you in my life?” Mary Elle said as she tippy-toed to kiss Thomas on his cheek.

“I’m the lucky one if you ask me,” Thomas replied as he hugged her tighter.

It was amazing to see how similar DeeAnn and Sheila were. They took after Gregory. He enjoyed meeting everyone and promised to visit soon, but next time, they would have dinner at Willow Acres.

“Thank you so much for visiting me,” DeeAnn said as she said her goodbyes.

She embraced her father and sister before they drove off. Mary Elle and DeeAnn stood on the sidewalk and watched as their car disappeared in the distance. DeeAnn put an arm around Mary Elle’s shoulder and rested her head on hers.

“I love you,” Mary Elle told her.

“I know, and I love you too.”
